Privacy Policy

Cockpit is a self-hosted application. The short version: the Cockpit application itself collects, stores, and transmits none of your personal data — everything runs on your own infrastructure. This marketing website (getcockp.it) does use lightweight analytics so we can see which channels bring visitors and improve the page; details below.

The Cockpit application

The Cockpit server, CLI, and mobile/web clients have no backend operated by us. The clients communicate directly with the Cockpit daemon running on your own machine, over your own network. From the application:

  • No analytics.
  • No telemetry.
  • No crash reports sent to us.
  • No accounts, no sign-up, no email.
  • No cookies, no tracking pixels, no third-party SDKs.

Your code, terminal sessions, prompts, and any data you process through Cockpit stay on the machines you control. Connections between the Cockpit client and your daemon are end-to-end encrypted with TLS using auto-generated certificates.

The promises above describe the Cockpit application. They do not apply to this marketing website. To understand which posts bring visitors and which parts of the page are working, we collect a small set of anonymous events on getcockp.it only.

  • We use PostHog to record anonymous page views, button clicks, scroll depth, and session replays of the landing page.
  • UTM parameters from inbound links (e.g. ?utm_source=hn) are recorded so we know which posts work.
  • IP addresses are discarded server-side, no person profiles are created for anonymous visitors, and no data is sold or shared with advertisers.
  • This applies only to getcockp.it. Once you install Cockpit on your machine, the application itself sends nothing to us — see the previous section.

Third-party services

Cockpit orchestrates AI coding agents (such as Claude Code) on your machine. When you use those agents, your prompts and code are sent to their respective providers under their own terms and privacy policies. Cockpit itself is not a party to that exchange — it merely runs the tooling locally.

Children's privacy

Cockpit is a developer tool not directed at children under 13.
